A 27-year-old motorcyclist from Anaheim was killed Saturday morning while racing a friend along Segerstrom Avenue, west of Harbor Boulevard, in Santa Ana.

Hung Quoc Pham and Kody Tran, 34, of Tustin, had been heading east on Segerstrom Avenue in excess of 80 mph when Pham lost control of his Suzuki, hit the curb and was thrown, said Police Sgt. Carlos Rojas.

“It looks like the body rolled about 300 feet, and the bike came to rest about 500 feet from where it hit the curb,” Rojas said.

Pham’s helmet was thrown from his head in the 9:45 a.m. accident, Rojas said. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tran, who was riding a Yamaha, was not cited.

The eastbound lanes of Segerstrom Avenue were closed for several hours while police interviewed witnesses, measured tire marks and examined the motorcycle. Coroner’s investigators were called to examine the body, which was removed about 12:30 p.m.
