Sheriff’s deputies shot and wounded a robbery suspect at a Rosemead motel early Sunday after he pointed a gun at them, authorities said.
The suspect was hit once in the lower torso and was in stable condition Sunday afternoon at a local hospital, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Sonia Parra said.
Deputies responded to a report of an attempted robbery at the Nice Days Inn around 4 a.m. They arrived to find the suspect, whose name was not immediately released, standing outside holding a shotgun, Parra said.
Deputies ordered the man to drop the gun but he fired into the lobby, then ran into a motel room, Parra said. When deputies ordered him out, he exited pointing the gun at them.
Fearing for their safety the deputies shot the suspect, then took him into custody without further incident.
The man was hospitalized and arrested, and the incident remained under investigation, Parra said.
