Lights Out on Power Play

Share

The Mighty Ducks went through another exercise in futility, otherwise known as their power play, Saturday.

They were blanked on five tries and have only one goal in their last 38 power plays. This time they outdid themselves, going 5 minutes 30 seconds during one power play stretch in the third period.

“There is no poise,” Coach Bryan Murray said. “That’s the whole thing there. We don’t have any poise on it.”

Murray met with his power units Saturday morning. As to how much sank in wasn’t clear.

The Ducks went without a shot on their first two power plays, then botched the third-period chance.

“We get the puck in the zone and it comes back to point or half board,” Murray said. “You don’t have to do anything. Just stop the puck and wait. Get everyone set up, then make one good pass. What we do is we throw it hard around the boards and battle again with their defensemen. It gets turned over and is gone down the ice.”

Marty McInnis’ third-period goal ended an 11-game streak without a goal.

“It’s always good to get a goal, but it would have been better if we had won, 5-3,” McInnis said.

The Ducks will visit the World Trade Center site this morning. Several sports teams have toured the site to show support for the policemen and firemen there.
