Wizards Clean Up on 76ers

A night after saying his team “stinks,” Michael Jordan scored 30 points and Richard Hamilton had 28 as the Washington Wizards defeated the 76ers, 94-87, Wednesday night at Philadelphia.

Allen Iverson scored 40 points and Derrick Coleman scored 15 for the 76ers. The defending Eastern Conference champions have lost two in a row after winning seven in a row.

Washington won for the second time in its last 10 games.

The 76ers were scoreless for more than four minutes in the fourth quarter and the Wizards opened an 87-76 lead with 4:13 left, capped by consecutive jumpers from Jordan and Hamilton.

Charlotte 104, Detroit 96--Baron Davis scored a career-high 38 points for the Hornets at Auburn Hills, Mich.

The Pistons grabbed 18 rebounds, the lowest total in NBA history.

The Hornets never trailed and had a 23-point lead in the third quarter, but Detroit pulled within 85-82 with six minutes left.

Detroit’s Jerry Stackhouse scored 26 points.

New York 105, Atlanta 100--Latrell Sprewell scored 25 points and the Knicks held on at Atlanta to defeat the Hawks for the second time in three nights.

The Knicks led virtually the entire way, winning their third in a row to get back to .500 (8-8), and reached 100 points for the first time this season.

Allan Houston scored 19 points for the Knicks, who also got an unexpected boost from Mark Jackson. The 14-year veteran scored a season-high 17 points.

Phoenix 104, Milwaukee 84--Penny Hardaway had 21 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists at Phoenix as the Suns gave Coach Scott Skiles his 100th victory.

Stephon Marbury had 24 points for the Suns.

Milwaukee’s Glenn Robinson scored 16 points and Ray Allen had 13.

San Antonio 94, Golden State 83--David Robinson had season-highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds and was one of three Spurs to finish with a double-double at San Antonio.

Tim Duncan had 16 points and 12 rebounds and reserve Malik Rose had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Larry Hughes scored a season-high 31 points for the Warriors. Danny Fortson grabbed 17 rebounds.

Utah 112, Seattle 88--Donyell Marshall had 20 points and 10 rebounds, Karl Malone scored 19 points and John Stockton scored 18 at Salt Lake City as the Jazz handed the SuperSonics their most lopsided defeat this season.

Vin Baker scored 20 for Seattle.

Indiana 99, Denver 85--Al Harrington scored 22 points and Reggie Miller had 17 at Denver as the Pacers handed the Nuggets their fourth consecutive loss.

Denver’s Nick Van Exel scored 20 points before drawing two quick technical fouls from referee Joe Crawford and being ejected with 4:07 remaining.
