For the first time in its history, the California Supreme Court will hold a special session today in Orange County.

The high court will hear oral arguments on several cases as part of a commemoration of the 100th birthday of the Old Orange County Courthouse in Santa Ana.

“On this historic occasion, the court looks forward to celebrating an important anniversary with both the Orange County Bar Assn. and the Superior Court of Orange County,” said Chief Justice Ronald M. George in a statement.

One of the cases the court will hear could determine how much information criminal defendants learn about the police officers who testify against them.

More than 600 mock trial students from Orange County will observe the Supreme Court’s session on satellite television at several nearby locations, officials said.

The “field trip” is rare for the court, which hears cases primarily in San Francisco, with occasional visits to Sacramento and Los Angeles.

The session will begin at 10 a.m.
