A Northridge man died Tuesday in what police described as the third gang shooting in about month in the Granada Hills-North Hills area.

About 4:20 a.m., several people heard gunshots in the 15200 block of Chase Street and called police, said Police Lt. Tim Moss.

Officers found the body of Joe Marroquin, 22, on the sidewalk in the 15200 block of Chase Street.

No one had been arrested, but police said the shooting was probably gang-related. “The victim was a documented gang member,” Moss said.

According to Devonshire Division officers, the Granada Hills-North Hills area has experienced a recent surge in gang activity.

On Sept. 13, 16-year-old Ricardo Floyd Arreguin was shot to death in the 11100 block of Woodley Avenue as he walked home from Kennedy High School. The Pacoima youth was not a gang member, his friends and family said, but his killer demanded to know where Arreguin was from, indicating that the assailant was a gang member. An 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old youth have been arrested, police said.

On Sept. 8, 27-year-old Melisio Martinez of Mission Hills was shot in the 16900 block of Devonshire Street. He and three others had been in an argument with four men inside a Ralphs supermarket, which police said was gang-related.

Police are asking anyone with more information about Marroquin’s killing to call Det. Mike Oppelt at (818) 756-8291 or the LAPD at (213) 485-2504.
