Former Police Chief Quits Airport Board

Dave Newsham ended a brief stint on the nine-member Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority, resigning his post this week over what he said were the divergent goals of securing a mandatory curfew and building a new, safer airport terminal.

Newsham was appointed to the panel June 1.

As one of Burbank’s three representatives on the airport’s governing board, the former Burbank police chief brought knowledge of security issues, especially important in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Newsham’s resignation came the same day voters passed a municipal ballot initiative to require that any airport construction project first get a two-thirds majority in a city election.
