Motel Owner, Tenants Sue City for Longer Stays

From Times Staff Reports

A motel owner and 160 of his long-term tenants are suing the city of Anaheim, challenging the constitutionality of city limits on how long motel residents can stay at one spot.

The suit by Lincoln Inn tenants is the third to challenge Anaheim’s policy requiring certain motel owners to limit tenants’ stays to 30 days.

Lincoln Inn owner Ben Karmelich has refused to enforce the policy. That inaction is one of the main reasons the City Council did not renew his permit last month.
