Sheriff’s detectives were searching Wednesday for a motorist who shot a Baldwin Park man to death at a Covina intersection and another man who allegedly gunned down his Temple City landlady and wounded her husband.

Arnold Castro, 46, of Baldwin Park, was shot shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday as he stopped at the traffic light at Grand Avenue and Badillo Street, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Det. Steve Rubino.

A gray Ford F-150 pickup with tinted rear windows pulled up alongside and its driver, a man described as in his 30s, yelled at Castro, Rubino said.

The pickup driver, Rubino said, then shot Castro in the upper body. Paramedics rushed Castro to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“Mr. Castro was a true victim. He was driving with his family,” Rubino said. The detective added that Castro had a prior involvement with his killer and recognized the man.

Meanwhile in Temple City, homicide detectives are searching for a renter who allegedly shot and killed a woman and wounded her husband after an argument about the same time as the Castro killing Tuesday night, Deputy Steve Jauch said.

The 40-year-old gunman, whose identity was withheld, fled the home in the 4900 block of Arden Drive in a red car.

The couple’s 11-year-old son overheard his parents arguing with the man in a nearby room and, after hearing gunshots, called 911, Jauch said.

When deputies arrived, they found the wounded husband staggering from the home.

The woman, whose identity was withheld, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jauch said the husband was shot at least once and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in stable condition Wednesday. The boy was uninjured.
