Eric Lindros is getting into game shape and he won’t be deterred by a bad memory.

Lindros scored once and assisted on Theo Fleury’s overtime goal as the New York Rangers beat the winless New Jersey Devils, 4-3, Wednesday night.

Lindros, back in the NHL after a 17-month absence, played against Scott Stevens and the Devils (0-3-0-1) for the first time since the New Jersey captain gave him his last concussion during the 2000 playoffs.

Stevens and Lindros were on the ice together for several shifts, but it resulted mostly in half-hearted bumps. But Lindros said he isn’t holding a grudge.

“You’re the guys who keep bringing that up,” he said. “I stopped thinking about that a long time ago. It was just fun to win.”

Petr Sykora pulled down Petr Nedved just 43 seconds into overtime to give the Rangers the man advantage. Fleury scored on the power play 1:20 into the extra period.

Mike Richter had 46 saves for the Rangers.

New York Islanders 4, Carolina 0--Shawn Bates and Brad Isbister gave New York an early lead, Chris Osgood earned his 32nd career shutout and the Islanders got their fifth consecutive road win.

The Islanders (5-0-0-1) pulled within two victories of matching the NHL’s longest road winning streak at the start of a season, set by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1940.

St. Louis 2, Dallas 2--Jere Lehtinen scored off a drop pass from Mike Modano midway through the third period to give Dallas a tie at St. Louis.

Dallas’ Ed Belfour stopped three shots in the final 10 seconds of overtime.
