Members of the Maryland marching band were allegedly involved in a fracas with Georgia Tech fans after the Terrapins’ 20-17 overtime victory last Thursday at Atlanta.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Maryland officials are expected to file a complaint with the Georgia Tech campus police that could lead to an investigation.

Band members are alleging that Yellowjacket fans threw glass bottles and assaulted members of the band while it broke into its postgame formation and then made its way from Bobby Dodd Stadium to its bus.

During the alleged fracas a trumpet was stolen and another instrument was damaged. One band member suffered undisclosed injuries during an altercation.

Kathleen Worthington, an associate athletics director for internal operations at Maryland, told the paper that an incident had taken place but denied there was a fight.

“Basically, some people pushed folks down and a couple of instruments were walked on and stepped on and broken,” Worthington told the paper. “It was just some fans who were obviously upset with the loss.”

Sterling Brown, a Georgia Tech senior associate director of athletics, acknowledged that an incident occurred but said the school was awaiting a formal complaint, which Maryland officials indicated that they planned to file.
