Patriotic Tunes Dominate, With Houston’s ‘Banner’ on Top
The patriotic wave of the last few weeks has continued to assault the pop music charts. Whitney Houston’s rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner,” claims the No. 1 position again on the singles chart.
Lee Greenwood’s, “God Bless the USA” may have only achieved a No. 7 ranking on the 1984 country charts, but this week it stands at No. 2.
Even Elvis Presley’s version of “America the Beautiful” rounds out the top 10.
On the album chart, the “God Bless America” benefit album captures the top spot. The record features songs from Celine Dion, Bruce Springsteen, Mariah Carey, Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel.
