George A. Graham, 82; Designer Worked on Hospitals, Churches
George A. Graham, 82, nationally recognized interior designer known for his work on hospitals and churches, died Oct. 21 in Seattle of heart disease.
The son of a furniture dealer, Graham was a University of Washington graduate who served on the U.S. destroyer Stanly during World War II. The ship was hit in a kamikaze attack.
In 1959, Graham was the lead interior design architect for the University of Washington Hospital. He later accepted a national award on behalf of his firm, NBBJ Architects, for design of the hospital’s waiting room.
Graham also planned much of the interior of Virginia Mason Medical Center and designed the brick chapel and garden of University Christian Church.
