The city’s Mexican Independence Day celebration, canceled last week at the request of Mexican President Vicente Fox, is rescheduled for Oct. 26-28, and will be refocused on not only Mexico and Latin America but the United States.

The former Fiestas Patrias has been renamed Fiesta of the Americas, America United. The name was changed to promote patriotism in the wake last week’s terrorist attacks.

“We are all in this together,” organizer Frank Palmer said.

Other than $1,000 spent for fliers, no money was lost because of the postponement, organizers said. But the October dates may draw fewer people because the weather will be colder and the days shorter, Palmer said.

About 250,000 people attended last year’s Fiestas Patrias.

The event, set for Sept. 15-16, was canceled after Fox told consuls to pull out of all festivities because of the attacks.
