Parssinen Making Impact With Ducks

That blur skating with the Mighty Ducks’ Paul Kariya on Friday night was Timo Parssinen. The two seemed a good fit on the top line in the team’s 6-0 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes.

Parssinen, a fourth-round pick in the June draft, had two goals, one off a spectacular pass from Kariya, and two assists.

“I saw him play in the World Championships last spring and he certainly looked like he could be someone who could play in the NHL,” Duck Coach Bryan Murray said. “We’ll see where he is when the day is done.”

Parssinen, a 24-year-old winger from Finland, has speed and showed Friday that he could finish. But the Ducks’ top two lines, where Parssinen may be most effective, appear set and that could work against him.

“I needed a game like that for my confidence,” Parssinen said. “I felt coming here that I had a chance to make this team. I haven’t been happy with how I’ve been in camp. I have had to learn the NHL game.”

NHL officials are reviewing a tape of Phoenix’s Daymond Langkow hitting Duck defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski from behind with his stick during Friday’s game ....Defenseman Ruslan Salei will play in his first game tonight. He has been rehabilitating from arthroscopic knee surgery.
