Weekend Parking Along the Sunset Strip Is No Gas

Share

OK, it’s time for a crackdown on Sunset Strip parking prices. Went cruising on the Strip on a recent Saturday night and much to my dismay, I found parking attendants charging $30!? Greed is not good.... After a hectic search, I found a parking lot behind the Shamrock Social Club tattoo parlor that was charging only seven bucks. But man, the city of West Hollywood needs to check itself.

Also had the displeasure of revisiting the Roxy, which recently underwent a modest remodel. Between being told to move every three seconds, I fantasized about a complete renovation, one that included proper ventilation and a revamped layout. The only salve to the discomfort was amazing performances by Too Rude and Slightly Stoopid, two reggae punk bands that are blowing up big time.

In 10 years of party crashing, I’ve never been to anything lovelier than Denzel Washington’s recent Sunset Room bash. The Oscar winner sure knows how to pick his friends. Among the guests who showed up at the Hollywood club were John Travolta, Eddie Murphy, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Ethan Hawke, Jesse Jackson, James Brolin and Barbra Streisand. I got the chance to yap with the man of the hour, who was sporting a Yankees cap and a grin but, alas, I didn’t get to tango with Travolta. There’s always next year....

Popped into the Key Club on Saturday for FREQ, the Sunset Strip nightclub’s newest erotic dance party. Lemme just tell you, it’s super freaky.

Ran into that cutie-patootey actress Alison Eastwood at the Shamrock Social Club. She’d just inked a lucky horseshoe on her ankle. I also spotted author Shawna Kenney, who penned the cult classic “I Was a Teenage Dominatrix.” Shooter Jennings, the son of the late wailin’ Waylon, brings his band Stargunn to the Viper Room on April 24, kicking off a monthlong Wednesday night residency for the Southern-fried rock band.... And mark your calendars for Dr. Lady, a hot buzz band playing the Viper next Thursday.... Looks like the Echo in Echo Park is reverberating with good times on Saturday afternoons, when it hosts a weekly punk rock comedy cabaret. Oi! The new nightclub is also hosting the Third Annual Iggy Pop birthday bash and barbecue on April 20, with performances by Texas Terri & the Stiff Ones, Motorcycle Boy, the Hangmen and more.

Man, the boys behind the Sunset Strip faves Miyagi’s and the Saddle Ranch Chop House are at it again. Larry Pollack and Tom Dillon are launching a new Saddle Ranch at CityWalk on May 11, just in time for summer. Yee-haw.... Just 19 more shopping days till the Rainbow Bar & Grill turns 30. The veteran rock spot’s planning an ill bash for its b-day on April 30. Let the good times roll, yo.
