Desert Artist’s Work

Share

Re “Salvation Mountain Artist Has Blessings Bestowed on His Work” (April 11), on Leonard Knight’s desert art, which consists of 100,000 gallons of paint painted on sand in the desert: Tell me if I’m wrong, but aren’t we supposed to dispose of this toxic material at recycling centers by law? How are painting the sand and, in effect, letting 100,000 gallons of pollutants into the ground water to be considered art?

I guess if I dump some paint down my sewer drain and it flows to the ocean and discolors the sand, water or swimmers then that is considered art too.
