A Memorial Tribute to Nobu McCarthy

A memorial tribute in honor of veteran actress Nobu McCarthy will be held tonight at 8 at the George and Sakaye Aratani Japan America Theatre at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center, 244 S. San Pedro St., downtown L.A.

An instructor at UCLA and the former artistic director of East West Players, McCarthy died Saturday in Londrina, Brazil, where she had been filming “Gaijin II,” a movie about generations of Japanese immigrants.

Date of death--The actress Nobu McCarthy died April 6. A story in Friday’s Calendar about her memorial service had the date wrong.

She was 67.

Endowments in McCarthy’s memory have been established at East West Players, 120 Judge John Aiso St., Los Angeles, CA 90012, and at UCLA’s Asian American Studies Center, where she had taught, 3230 Campbell Hall, P.O. Box 951546, Los Angeles, CA 90095.
