Light heavyweight Julio Gonzalez of Huntington Beach will face Joseph Kiwanuka of Uganda in a scheduled 10-round bout that is the main event of tonight’s Fight Night Live at the Arrowhead Pond.
Gonzalez (28-1, 18 knockouts) went the distance last summer against Roy Jones Jr. and is ranked No. 6 by the World Boxing Council. Kiwanuka (27-4-2, 20 KOs) is a former North American Boxing Federation champion.
The semi-main event will be a 10-round lightweight fight between Arnulfo “Chico” Castillo (34-1-3, 20 KO’s) of Chihuahua, Mexico, and Jesus Zatarain (21-5-4, 14 KOs) of Mazatlan, Mexico.
Also fighting on the card will be heavyweight Javier Mora (11-0-1, 10 KOs) of Westminster and Joey Torres, 41, who will be making his professional debut after spending more than 22 years in prison on a murder charge.
The card begins at 7, with coverage on Channel 9 starting at 8. It is the first of four shows scheduled this year. Tickets begin at $15 and can be purchased at the Pond box office or by calling (714) 740-2000.
