More than 1,300 marijuana plants worth an estimated $4.6 million were confiscated from an outdoor garden near the Siskiyou County community of Happy Camp after they were spotted by a patrol flight, police said.

The 9-foot-tall plants were being watered by a drip irrigation system and appeared to be managed by an experienced grower, according to sheriff’s deputies.

No one was in the garden when police arrived, but there was evidence that someone had been living on both Forest Service land and private property in the Independence Creek area southwest of Happy Camp, deputies said.
