Nov. 5 Vote Will Elect Officials in 9 Cities and Decide Countywide Races

Ventura County voters will go to the polls Nov. 5 to cast ballots for California’s governorship, four Assembly offices and two congressional seats. But a number of local contests also will be decided.

Council races will be held in nine cities, including separate mayoral contests in three.

The Ventura County Board of Education will gain two new members, and three seats on the Ventura Community College District Board of Trustees will also be decided.

Candidates for seats in 13 school board districts will appear on the ballot. And voters will choose a new county clerk and recorder.

The following candidates have provisionally qualified for council races in nine Ventura County cities:

Camarillo City Council (three seats): incumbents Jan McDonald, Charlotte Craven and Mike Morgan; challenger Carlos Cruz.

Fillmore City Council (two seats): challengers Nicholas Dalton, Paul G. Harding, Ken Smedley and Ernest Villegas.

Moorpark mayor: incumbent Patrick Hunter.

Moorpark City Council (two seats): incumbent Clint Harper; challengers Bernardo Perez and Janice Parvin.

Ojai City Council (three seats): incumbents David Bury and Joseph Devito; challengers Paul Blatz, Leonard Klaif, Bruce Roland and Carol B. Smith.

Oxnard mayor: incumbent Manuel Lopez.

Oxnard City Council (two seats): incumbent Dean Maulhardt; challengers Elias Banales Jr., Albert Duff, Alex Escobell, Tim Hammons, Andres Herrera, Martin D. Jones, Susan Komar and Saul Medina.

Port Hueneme City Council (three seats): incumbents Anthony Volante and Jonathan Sharkey; challengers Steve Kinney, Helen McPherson and Maricela Morales.

Santa Paula City Council (three seats): incumbent Rick Cook; challengers Gabino Aguirre, Al Escoto, Rita Graham, Mary Ann Krause and John D. Wisda.

Simi Valley mayor: incumbent Bill Davis; challengers Jim Mackelburg and David Plunkett.

Simi Valley City Council (two seats): incumbents Glen Becerra and Paul Miller; challengers Paul Delgado and Brian E. Wilson.

Thousand Oaks City Council (three seats): incumbents Dan Del Campo, Andy Fox and Dennis Gillette; challengers Claudia Bill-de la Pena, Laura Lee Custodio, Michael Farris, David Sams, David Seagal and Rick Velasquez.

Thousand Oaks City Council (one seat--short term): Randy Hoffman, Don Morris and Bob Wilson.

Ventura County Board of Education:

Area 1 (one seat): challengers Harold Alan Chiprin, Mary Louise Peterson and Octavio Sifuentes.

Area 2 (one seat) challenger Marty Bates.

Area 4 (one seat): challengers Rob Collins, Dean Kunicki, John Lane and Walt Madrid.

Ventura County Community College District:

Area 1 (one seat): incumbent John Tallman; challengers Kevin Laird, David Norrdin and Mary Anne Rooney. Area 2 (one seat): challengers Carroll M. Bowen, Cheryl Heitmann, Sandy Patrizio, Dan Peate and Linda Van Dolsen.

Area 5 (one seat): incumbent Art Hernandez; challengers Ron Segovia Dyste, Deshay Ford and Sylvia Munoz Schnopp.
