Elderly Man Killed, 2 Injured in Auto Collision

An 83-year-old Huntington Beach man was killed and two others injured Monday when the cars they were riding in collided at a busy intersection, police said.

Arden Walter Hansen, 83, died at the scene from blunt force trauma, police Lt. William Peterson said.

Hansen was a passenger in a car driven by his wife, Lydia, 80, who was turning onto Ellis Avenue from Edwards Street about 9:40 a.m. when her car collided with a van, Peterson said.

Lydia Hansen was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange where she was in critical condition with arm, leg and internal injuries, police said. The other driver suffered minor injuries.
