Fans Have the Power to Throw the Bums Out

Richard Greene makes some very fine points in “Go Ahead, Strike--but Foot the Bill” (Commentary, Aug. 21). However, what all these players and owners need is a taste of their own medicine. If all the fans had an ounce of discipline and courage, not to mention a willingness to set a good example for their children, they would completely boycott all major league baseball games for an entire season. They could even form boycott clubs and do alternative activities.

The only reason these millionaire players and billionaire owners make money and prostitute the game is because the fans pay for it and keep going back. Therefore, fans and columnists shouldn’t complain, because they are the ones who accept and contribute to the problem. If there are no fans watching or going to games, there will be no baseball. Strikes, excessive salaries and rising ticket costs will stop only when the fans take control and close their wallets and change the channel. Until then, shut up and take it.
