‘Ice Age’ video tops families’ box office
Many more families bought a DVD or VHS copy of “Ice Age” than tickets to any of the top movies last weekend, including two new animated films.
Video sales of the computer-animated hit reached about $120 million Tuesday through Sunday, 20th Century Fox home entertainment reported.
That figure was nearly equivalent to the combined theatrical take of the top four films for Wednesday through Sunday, and almost four times as much as the two new animated films, Disney’s “Treasure Planet” and Sony’s “Eight Crazy Nights,” combined.
Fox’s total was based on sales of 7 million units out of 15 million shipped to stores. Of units sold, 60% were DVDs.
