Prized Bald Eagle Is Returned to Zoo

From Times Wire Reports

After a brief flight of freedom, a prized bald eagle from the San Francisco Zoo was recovered safely from a mountaintop a few miles from home.

The bird, a 13-year-old bald eagle named Sequoia, had been missing since Sunday afternoon, when she flew the coop from her handlers during a routine stretch of her wings. Her “absent without leave” status had zoo officials concerned, though they were able to follow her movements with a radio tracking device attached to her tail.

Sequoia wouldn’t have been able to survive for long in the wilderness, according to zoo spokeswoman Nancy Chan.
