Illinois Holds Off Michigan State

Frank Williams scored 22 points, including five in the final 75 seconds, to lift No. 18 Illinois over Michigan State, 63-61, Tuesday night at East Lansing, Mich.

The Illini (18-7, 7-5 in the Big Ten) won its third in a row and first in the Breslin Center since 1997.

Michigan State (14-10, 5-6) made consecutive three-point baskets to pull within 59-58 with 27 seconds left.

No. 5 Cincinnati 67, Saint Louis 53--Steve Logan scored 21 points at Cincinnati for the Bearcats (23-2, 10-1 in Conference USA).

Cincinnati went on a 14-4 spurt to move ahead by double digits with six minutes to go. Saint Louis (11-14, 5-7) never got closer than nine the rest of the way.

No. 6 Florida 85, No. 21 Georgia 70--Udonis Haslem scored 26 points and Brett Nelson had 17 to help the Gators (19-4, 8-3 in the Southeastern Conference) overcome a 10-point first-half deficit at Athens, Ga. Haslem had 18 points in the final 10:50 and Nelson had 14, including four three-point baskets, in the final 12:12.

Jonas Hayes had 19 for Georgia (18-7, 7-5).

No. 15 Virginia 73, North Carolina 63--Chris Williams and Roger Mason Jr. each scored 18 points and the Cavaliers (16-6, 6-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference) overcame several late runs by the Tar Heels (6-16, 2-10) at Charlottesville, Va. North Carolina has lost five in a row.

Andre Emmett scored 30 points for Texas Tech (17-6, 6-5 in the Big 12) in a 90-65 victory over Baylor (14-10, 4-7) at Lubbock, Texas. The Red Raiders won for the first time in three games. The loss was the Bears’ biggest of the season.

WOMEN’S TOP 25

Heather Schreiber scored 12 points, including a three-pointer with 4:43 to play that gave No. 18 Texas (16-7) the lead for good in a 69-66 victory over No. 3 Tennessee (20-3) at Knoxville, Tenn. The Lady Vols had won 12 in a row against the Longhorns.... Brianne Stepherson scored 17 points to lead No. 21 Boston College (18-5, 9-3 in the Big East) to a 68-56 victory over West Virginia (13-10, 5-7) at Morgantown, W.Va.
