Wallace, Wells Spark Portland Past Dallas

Rasheed Wallace scored 24 points and Bonzi Wells had 22, and the Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 114-103, Wednesday night at Portland, Ore.

Dale Davis had 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who outrebounded Dallas, 45-27. Wallace had nine rebounds and Wells had eight.

In the second quarter, Davis recorded his 1,000th career block.

Dirk Nowitzki had 27 points and eight rebounds for the Mavericks, who ended a franchise-record eight-game road winning streak. Tim Hardaway had 19 points.

Portland went ahead in the second quarter with a 10-0 run. After that, the Mavericks never came closer than four points.

Dallas made it 100-96 with 7:40 remaining, but the Trail Blazers scored 10 of the next 11 points to put the game out of reach.

Tempers were short in the first half.

Dallas Coach Don Nelson got into a heated exchange with the officials twice, finally receiving a technical midway through the second quarter.

Hardaway picked up one in the third quarter and Wallace got his league-leading 18th technical in the fourth quarter.

Cleveland 115, Milwaukee 107--Wesley Person tied his career-high with 33 points and Andre Miller had 27 at Milwaukee, and the Cavaliers handed the Bucks their seventh loss in nine games.

Miller also had 19 assists and Lamond Murray had 22 points for the Cavaliers.

The Bucks have lost to the East’s two worst teams, Chicago and Cleveland, since the All-Star break, and have lost five of seven at home.

New York 89, Toronto 82--Kurt Thomas scored six of his 19 points in the fourth quarter at New York and the Knicks avoided falling into last place in the Atlantic Division.

Keon Clark had 26 points and Morris Peterson had 25 for Toronto. The Knicks’ reserves outscored Toronto’s, 24-3.

Charlotte 113, Chicago 91--Lee Nailon scored 24 points and Baron Davis had 18 points and 12 assists to lead the Hornets at Charlotte, N.C.

A.J. Guyton scored 19 points for the Bulls, who fell to 3-23 on the road.

Miami 112, Orlando 95--Eddie Jones scored 24 points at Miami, where the Heat shot 55% and topped the 100-point mark for only the fourth time this season.

Tracy McGrady scored 26 points and Pat Garrity 25 to lead the Magic.

Minnesota 107, Phoenix 92--Kevin Garnett had 33 points, 13 rebounds and six assists for the Timberwolves at Minneapolis.

After losing six of eight, Minnesota has won two in a row.

The Timberwolves learned point guard Terrell Brandon will sit out the season because of an injured left leg.

Garnett, who had 10 rebounds by halftime, has 65 points and 27 rebounds in two games against Phoenix this season.

Golden State 92, Boston 75--Antawn Jamison scored 27 points at Oakland and the Warriors continued their recent dominance of Boston.

The Warriors ended a five-game losing streak by beating the Celtics for the sixth consecutive time at home.

Golden State has won eight of its last 11 and three in a row against the Celtics.

Paul Pierce scored 30 points for Boston. Pierce has scored 30 points or more 20 times this season. Only Philadelphia’s Allen Iverson (21 times) has done it more often.
