Man Dies After Gunfight Between 2 Groups
A 20-year-old Compton man died early Saturday after a gunfight erupted between his friends and about 10 other men, police said.
Martin Mendoza died about 12:19 a.m. during surgery at St. Mary Medical Center, said Long Beach Police Officer David Marander.
Mendoza and some friends were near 19th Street and Gardena Avenue late Friday when gunfire was exchanged between his group and others across the street, Marander said.
Two men dropped Mendoza off at the emergency room, then fled.
Police found two handguns at the scene of the shooting. They said the incident appeared to be gang related.
Anyone with information is asked to call Long Beach detectives at (562) 570-7244.
