Maggette Suffers a Concussion

Share

Corey Maggette suffered a concussion with 1:57 remaining in the third quarter of the Clippers’ victory Wednesday over the Miami Heat.

He said he hopes to play tonight against the Orlando Magic.

He also said he hopes to find out who clobbered him.

“I don’t know what happened; somebody hit me,” Maggette said. “I’m going to look [at the videotape] and find out who.”

Maggette crumpled to the court after the collision, then walked rubbery-legged to the Clippers’ bench after the team called a 20-second timeout to aid him.

“The last thing I remember was my layup,” he said, referring to a fastbreak basket that gave the Clippers a 66-57 lead moments before he fell.

The team said Maggette’s status for tonight’s game is questionable. He has been nursing a sore left knee for more than two months, but still has played in 52 of the team’s 55 games.

If Maggette cannot play, Coach Alvin Gentry will be forced to do some juggling with his healthy forwards.

Elton Brand did not play Wednesday because of a stretched tendon in his right ring finger and might not be fit to play tonight.

Lamar Odom was in L.A., rehabilitating a sprained right wrist and a sprained right ankle and is expected to be sidelined for at least two more weeks.

“If he’s not able to go, we’re going to have to plug someone else in,” Gentry said, referring to Maggette. “The only thing is, we’re running out of guys to plug in.”

Gentry on the Heat, which was on a 12-4 roll before losing to the Clippers: “I still don’t think you’ve heard the last of Miami. I think you’ll see them find a way to get into the playoffs, and if they get in the playoffs, anything can happen.”
