A 1-year-old boy was killed in the driveway of his Cypress home Saturday morning when he fell under a family car being moved by his father, police said.

The accident occurred in the 5100 block of Edgemont Circle about 10 a.m., police Sgt. Steven Ramsey said.

Alan Paulson, 23, was moving his car a short distance with the driver’s door open, the engine off and the transmission in neutral, Ramsey said. His son walked into the path of the open door, was knocked to the ground and pinned under the car, he said.

When police officers arrived, neighbors were performing CPR on the boy, who was no longer breathing and had no pulse.

Officers, and later paramedics, continued to treat the child but to no avail, Ramsey said.

“At this point, it just looks like a tragic accident,” Ramsey said. “But we are continuing to investigate.”

The boy was taken to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead of major head trauma, Ramsey said.
