Pac-10 Reprimands Toledo and Neuheisel

Share

The Pacific 10 Conference reprimanded football coaches Bob Toledo of UCLA and Rick Neuheisel of Washington on Wednesday for publicly accusing each other of negative recruiting in the days before the Feb. 6 signing date.

Neuheisel said on a radio talk show that Toledo was trying to steal players who had committed to Washington, and the UCLA coach responded by saying Neuheisel told Bruin recruits that Toledo was on his way out as coach.

“This year’s recruiting process seemed to raise emotions more than usual,” said Tom Hansen, the Pacific 10 Conference commissioner. “Regardless of that, the conference has rules which require that concerns about other Pac-10 institutions are to be communicated internally, not publicly.”

The Pac-10, which also reprimanded Oregon for playing a video during a home football game that showed Neuheisel in an unflattering manner, plans to review rules regarding negative recruiting with coaches in April.
