Crude Oil Leaks From Pipeline Into River
About 840 gallons of crude oil leaked Sunday from a pipeline near Carbon Canyon and into the Santa Ana River, state officials said.
But the oil, from Bridgemark Petroleum, did not enter ground water, said Ron Wildermuth, spokesman for the Orange County Water District, which has recharging ponds near the spill area.
Lt. Mark Caywood of the California Department of Fish and Game’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response was at the scene Monday and said at least five birds were affected.
Cleanup could last beyond Friday.
