Pepperdine (7-6) at St. Mary’s (5-8), 7, KPLS (830)--With their full complement of players in place, the Waves hope their recent improvement will carry into tonight’s West Coast Conference opener. Glen McGowan, suspended for the fall semester, returned and scored 13 points in Pepperdine’s 82-79 overtime win over Brigham Young. Coach Paul Westphal has largely settled on a starting lineup of Boomer Brazzle and Jimmy Miggins at forward, Cedric Suitt at center and Devin Montgomery and Terrance Johnson as his guards. Suitt, a 6-foot-11 senior, played the best game of his career against BYU with eight points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots. First-year St. Mary’s Coach Randy Bennett, a former Pepperdine assistant under Lorenzo Romar, has already improved the Gaels. St. Mary’s won only two games last season. The Waves play another WCC game Saturday at San Francisco.
