Clerk Injured During Robbery
A Costa Mesa convenience store clerk suffered minor injuries Sunday after a man hit her in the head with a blunt object before grabbing money from the cash register, police said. The man fled California Stop Market in a silver Buick after the 2 p.m. robbery, said police Sgt. Tim Schennum.
As he backed out of the store parking lot on West 19th Street, he crashed into a minivan, Schennum said. Police believe he and the driver may have exchanged words. They are searching for the minivan driver, who they hope can provide the man’s name or license plate number.
Schennum declined to say how much money was taken in the robbery.
The store employee was treated at a hospital.
Police spent Sunday afternoon searching for the Buick, which was described as old, but with fresh body damage to its rear.
Anyone with information about the robbery or the collision is asked to contact Costa Mesa police at (714) 754-5281.
