Cummins Is Going

With only a few days to go before the Mighty Ducks travel to Calgary to face the Flames on Saturday in what is expected to be Brawl Night II, Anaheim traded away seldom-used enforcer Jim Cummins to the New York Islanders on Monday in exchange for center Dave Roche.

Cummins, who appeared in only two games this season with the Ducks, had been playing for Cincinnati of the American Hockey League, where he had five points and 39 penalty minutes in 11 games.

Roche, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound veteran, has played in 171 NHL games with 30 points and 334 penalty minutes. He had been an offensive force this season playing for the Bridgeport Sound of the AHL, where he led the team with 22 goals. Roche is expected to report to Cincinnati of the AHL today.

For the fourth consecutive game, Coach Bryan Murray skated Paul Kariya with Andy McDonald and Patric Kjellberg when the Ducks faced Nashville on Monday night at the Arrowhead Pond.

“We need a guy like Kjellberg with that group because of his ability to play in front of the net,” Murray said.

With Kjellberg playing on the No.1 line, the Ducks are able to skate Marty McInnis on Samuel Pahlsson’s line and still use him at the point on the power play.

Veteran right wing Sergei Krivokrasov, who has been a healthy scratch for 13 of the last 14 games, has been assigned to Cincinnati pending that he clears waivers.
