Strahan Is Voted Best on Defense

The sack has become the most glorified defensive play in the NFL, a major reason why New York Giant end Michael Strahan was voted Wednesday the Associated Press defensive player of the year.

Strahan, who had a record 221/2 sacks, earned a seven-vote margin over Chicago linebacker Brian Urlacher.

“Only seven,” Strahan said with a smile. “I’m disappointed, but I’ll take it.”
