City Seeks Payment From Owner of 200 Cats
The city is seeking $48,775 from a San Francisco woman to cover the cost of capturing, caring for and, in most cases, disposing of 200 cats found in filthy conditions in her Petaluma home.
The City Council voted 6 to 0 to place a nuisance-abatement lien on Marilyn Barletta’s house. Barletta, 62, faces charges of animal cruelty after authorities found the cats living closely together in their own excrement.
The costs being sought include $4,925 for disposal of the bodies of about 160 cats that were too wild or sick to be adopted.
