From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The San Diego Unified Port District has agreed to pay $50,000 to a company owned by Padres owner John Moores to settle a suit involving a hotel development project.

Moores’ JMI Realty sued the port in April over a failed deal to build a hotel on a former shipyard site near the convention center. The lawsuit said that in 1999, the port chose a rival developer to build a 1,000- to 1,200-room hotel, despite a previous agreement with JMI. No hotel has been built, and last year the port regained rights to develop the property.
