Woman Gets Life Term for Shooting Husband
A 70-year-old woman was sentenced to life in prison for shooting her frail husband to death. The woman said it was an accident, but prosecutors argued that she was tired of caring for him.
Viola Virginia Journey was convicted last month of murder and elder abuse for shooting Webster Alfred Journey, 79.
Yolo County Superior Court Judge Stephen Mock sentenced Journey on Tuesday to 25 years to life for first-degree murder and an additional 25 years to life for using a gun.
Mock stayed a 10-year sentence for elder abuse with a weapon resulting in death, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Paul Richardson.
