Colorado Wins, 3-2, Before 61,213
Chris Carrieri scored three goals in the second half to lead the Colorado Rapids to a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Fire on Thursday night before 61,213 in Denver.
Carrieri, a halftime replacement for Jeff Stewart, twice tied the score and then scored the game-winner in the 88th minute, his sixth goal.
Mark Chung had two assists for Colorado.
Ante Razov and Jason Moore scored for Chicago, which lost its third in a row.
The teams play again on Sunday in Chicago.
Razov beat goalkeeper David Kramer in the seventh minute. Carrieri tied the score in the 57th minute when he converted a give-and-go pass from Chung.
The Fire regained the lead in the 70th minute on Moore’s left-footed shot from 19 yards. Carrieri made it 2-2 in the 82nd minute.
Chung set up the game-winner with a crossing pass to Carrieri, who beat goalkeeper Zach Thornton from 20 yards out.
Razov received his second yellow card in the 45th minute and had to leave the game. Colorado lost captain John Spencer to a red card in the 35th minute for elbowing referee Noel Kenny.
Dallas 2, New York/New Jersey 0--Matt Jordan earned his second consecutive shutout and Jason Kreis had a goal and an assist as the Burn cruised to victory before 16,055 at Dallas.
Jordan came out of the box and made a diving stop on a shot by Andy Williams in the 82nd minute to help preserve the shutout.
A minute later, Kreis scored his 12th goal--a shot that bounced off the right post and into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Jordan earlier stopped the best scoring chance for the MetroStars with his diving save of Ted Chronopoulos’ penalty kick in the 48th minute.
New England 4, Columbus 1--Steve Ralston scored two goals and the Revolution defeated the Crew before 10,903 at Foxboro, Mass.
Ralston scored in the 31st and 65th minutes.
New England rookie Taylor Twellman scored his 12th goal in the 11th minute.
Brian McBride spoiled New England goalie Adin Brown’s shutout bid in the 82nd minute with his first goal.
Columbus had two shots knocked off the goal line by Revolution defenders, while Brown smothered a breakaway by John Wilmar Perez in the 79th minute.
Kansas City 2, D.C. United 1--Carey Talley and Dario Fabbro scored first-half goals as the Wizards held on for a victory before 19,641 at Kansas City, Mo.
United, which scored in the 55th minute on a goal by Ali Curtis, fell to 0-6 on the road.
Fabbro, a 25-year-old Argentine forward, scored his fourth goal when he chipped the ball over the head of the charging United goalkeeper Nick Rimando and into the net.
Three minutes later, Talley score on a pass from midfielder Francisco Gomez.
