Inmate Who Killed Self Gets a Military Funeral
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Covall Russell, the 92-year-old man who took his own life last week after a judge denied his requests to stay in jail where he felt comfortable, was buried Friday with military honors.
The ailing World War II veteran, who spent 14 months behind bars on an assault charge, jumped from a bridge because he feared for his quality of care on the outside.
The ceremony featured an honor guard from the local Veterans of Foreign Wars hall. Among those in attendance was the deputy district attorney who prosecuted his case.
