Dont Dink With Me May Be Derby Material

Second in the El Primero Del Ano Derby when last seen on April 26, Dont Dink With Me will try to qualify for another derby tonight at Los Alamitos.

The gray son of Chicks Beduino heads the first of two trials for the $350,000 Governor’s Cup Derby, which will be run on June 22.

The 10 fastest times in the 400-yard trials will qualify for the finals, which will be part of the third annual California Breeders Champions card.

The other top challenger in the first trial is Fifth Avenue Dash, who will break from the rail under jockey Gary Boag.

In the second trial, Inthetwinkleofanyeye, who has won three of her last four, will race Last Shall Be First and eight others. In her first start of 2002, Last Shall Be First, owned by Spencer Childers and trained by Dan Francisco, won the Dash For Speed Handicap on May 10.

Shots in the dark: Pats Charming Guy could improve in his second time out in the sixth for sharp trainer Christopher O’Dell. Sables Dash removes the blinkers in the ninth for trainer R C Howell.
