The accident report on San Diego Padre outfielder Mike Darr’s fatal one-vehicle crash revealed Wednesday that he was legally drunk at the time.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials have said since the early morning Feb. 15 crash on a Phoenix highway that alcohol played a role in the death of Darr.

Darr’s blood-alcohol level was 0.11, which is 0.03 above Arizona’s legal limit and 0.04 shy of classification as a felony. The report also estimated his vehicle was traveling at the speed limit of 65 mph when it left the fast lane of Loop 101 and veered onto a gravel median.

Baseball players showed no interest in owners’ proposals for a luxury tax and vastly increased revenue sharing, offering a far different view Wednesday night of what the sport’s labor contract should include.

In its first response to plans offered by management on Jan. 9 and Feb. 26, the players’ union declined to accept the owners’ luxury-tax proposal and made only a small change to its revenue-sharing system.

“My expectation is that we’ll study this,” management negotiator Bob DuPuy said after the session in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. “Because of the players still being in Florida and Arizona, and the fact that the [Players’ Assn.] has players at these sessions, my guess is that we will not resume negotiations until after opening day.”
