Orange County Exhibit Casts a Light on Wright

On Friday, “Light Screens: The Leaded Glass of Frank Lloyd Wright” opens at the Orange County Museum of Art, considering anew Wright’s exploration of light and color in windows. On Friday, “Under the Hat: Hollywood’s Legendary Brown Derby Restaurants” opens at the Academy Gallery in Beverly Hills. In 1926 the original Brown Derby restaurant opened on Wilshire Boulevard, the first of four eventual Brown Derbies and the only one built in the shape of a hat. The show features hundreds of photos of celebrities at the restaurants from the late 1920s to the late ‘50s, and dozens of decor and memorabilia items. Admission is free. On Friday, “Houses x Artists = Design Without Rules” opens at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture. Ten artists each designed a house under optimal creative conditions, unrestricted by scale, site condition or finances. The exhibition unfolds in three phases, with Phase I running from Friday to June 25. Hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. General admission is $5. 835 N. Kings Road, West Hollywood. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the 15th annual Modernism Show, a showcase of furniture, jewelry, clothing and decorative and fine art from the last 100 years, takes place at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, 1855 Main Street, Santa Monica. General admission is $10. (310) 455-2886.
