* Cedar Fair, a Sandusky, Ohio, partnership that owns and operates Knott’s Berry Farm and other amusement and water parks, said its net loss for the first quarter widened to $32.5 million, or 63cents a share, from a loss of $30.5million, or 60 cents, a year earlier. Revenue grew 20% to $23.9million.

* Merchant banking group Thomas Weisel Partners said it bought investment manager ValueQuest for an undisclosed amount to expand its 2-year-old asset management business. Thomas Weisel Partners runs San Francisco-based Thomas Weisel Asset Management, which manages hedge, venture capital and private-equity funds. With the acquisition of about $500million in assets at ValueQuest, Thomas Weisel Partners will oversee about $2.7billion.

* Jakks Pacific Inc. said its newly acquired Toymax unit has signed a deal with Viacom Inc.’s Nickelodeon to make a video game machine for children based on the cable channel’s programs. Terms weren’t disclosed.

* Mossimo Inc. said it has signed a three-year licensing agreement for several apparel designs with Hudson Bay Co., Canada’s largest department store operator.
