Wrist Injury Keeps Deadmarsh Sidelined

Adam Deadmarsh skated with the Kings during practice Thursday morning, hoping for a sign that he’d be able to play that night against the Chicago Blackhawks, but his injured right wrist wouldn’t allow it.

“I just went out to see how it would go,” a downbeat Deadmarsh said afterward, his damaged wrist wrapped in tape. “It was sore. I couldn’t really shoot a puck or even make a pass without quite a bit of pain.”

He suffered the injury during Sunday’s 5-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. “In the middle of the ice,” he said, “I ran into a guy and jammed it.” He aggravated it in Tuesday’s 4-0 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers “just pushing with a guy in front of the net,” he said. He played less than eight minutes.

X-rays revealed broken bones, Coach Andy Murray said, but it could not be determined if the fractures were new or from an older injury. Deadmarsh is scheduled for an MRI exam today in Los Angeles, Murray said.

The Kings, believing a suspension was warranted, were disappointed that Thrasher defenseman Andy Sutton was not disciplined by the NHL for the knee-on-knee hit Tuesday that resulted in an injury that is expected to sideline King center Jason Allison for eight to 12 weeks.

“We’re a little surprised,” General Manager Dave Taylor said. “The league’s explanation to me was that, in their opinion, there was no intent to hit Jason with the knee.”

Bob Miller, the Kings’ television play-by-play announcer, will attend his mother-in-law’s funeral Saturday in Elkhorn, Wis., and will be replaced by Bill Macdonald on the Fox Sports Net telecast of that night’s game against the Nashville Predators at Staples Center. Viola Loomer died Wednesday. She was 88.

Miller, in his 30th season with the Kings, has not missed a broadcast since Oct. 26, 1990, when he attended son Kevin’s college graduation.
