Hawks Sign McCaskill
The Atlanta Hawks put reserve center Nazr Mohammed on the injured list because of a stress fracture in his right foot and signed free-agent forward Amal McCaskill on Thursday. Mohammed is expected to be out four to six weeks.
McCaskill was waived earlier this week by Portland. He averaged 3.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in five exhibition games with the Trail Blazers.

The Indiana Pacers signed forwards Ron Artest and Jonathan Bender to contract extensions, just beating the NBA’s Thursday night deadline. Artest’s deal is for six years and $42 million, according to his agent. Pacer president Donnie Walsh said the extensions were multiyear deals but didn’t give any details. Without the extensions, Artest and Bender would have become restricted free agents after this season.

Orlando Magic forward Horace Grant could be out until December because his left knee has not healed from arthroscopic surgery he had almost seven weeks ago. Grant said he would sit out as long as it takes to fully recover, which he said could take from 10 days to a month.... The Golden State Warriors signed forward-center Guy Rucker. Rucker, 6 feet 11, was cut by the Lakers Monday.
