No Easy Task Stopping Nashville Power Plays

The Kings started Saturday night’s game against Nashville with the second best penalty-killing unit in the NHL, giving up only five power-play goals in 59 short-handed situations.

But the Kings sure had their problems stopping the Predators’ power play in the first period. Nashville scored twice in four man-advantage opportunities with David Legwand and Andreas Johansson accounting for the goals. It was the first time this season that an opponent scored more than one power-play goal against the Kings.

Defenseman Aaron Miller, who has been sidelined since having abdominal surgery Sept. 13, skated with his teammates for the second consecutive day Saturday morning and is on schedule to return to the lineup before the end of the month.

The Kings hope to have Miller back for their next trip, which will begin Tuesday at San Jose. The eight-game trip will be the Kings’ longest of the season.

The Kings’ minor league affiliate, Manchester of the American Hockey League, stretched its unbeaten streak to eight games Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Portland. Mike Cammalleri scored his fourth goal of the season and Jared Aulin scored the winner in overtime for the Monarchs, who are 7-0-1 in their last eight games.

Saturday night’s game was the Kings’ fourth sellout in five home games this season.
