Capo Di Capo on Right Track

Share

After beginning his career with three victories, Capo Di Capo hasn’t had much luck reaching the winner’s circle.

The 5-year-old Capote gelding, owned by actor Albert Finney and Karen and Mickey Taylor of Seattle Slew fame, has lost 10 of his last 11. However, things could change today. A winner in both his races at Hollywood Park, Capo Di Capo will break from the rail against seven others in the seventh, a $55,000 allowance at seven furlongs. The race is the fifth leg of a pick six with a carry-over of $82,886.

Now trained by Neil French after beginning his career with Richard Mandella, Capo Di Capo is the 4-1 third choice on Russ Hudak’s morning line. He will be ridden by Alex Solis, his most frequent jockey.

The field includes three others who have won at Hollywood Park. Golden Hare, who is trained by Mandella, rallied from last to win at 6 1/2 furlongs here during the spring; High Wire Act, in his first race since June 14; and Last Parade, who was 30-1 when he upset Palmeiro and six others nearly a year ago.

Rounding out the field are the Bob Baffert-trained So Urgent and Skip To The Stone, longshot Not For Me and Lugny.

Race of the day: A full field of $50,000 3-year-olds get together in the sixth at Hollywood Park. Six Hitter and Malone are the ones to beat.

Who’s hot: Mike Mitchell. The trainer finished Oak Tree on a roll, winning with eight of 23 starters and had another winner (Go Girl Go) on the first day at Hollywood Park.

Who’s not: Omar Berrio and Chance Rollins. The two jockeys were a combined five for 100 at Oak Tree.

Exotically speaking: A place pick all using Candita in the first, Rmisvesta and Bella Nunzi in the second, Darling Demon and Maruka in the third, singling Gamblin Town in the fourth, Roberta’s Mango and Cee’s Valley Girl in the fifth, singling Malone in the sixth and Golden Hare in the seventh and Treink and Jade Vixen in the eighth.
