Steve Henson’s keys to the game, and how the Bruins measured up:

1. Freshman quarterback Drew Olson and freshman center Mike McCloskey must avoid getting confused by Arizona’s flex defense and make sound protection calls: The only confusion was from Wildcat defenders who couldn’t catch tailback Tyler Ebell, Olson or anyone else who handled the ball for UCLA.

2. The freshman quarterbacks must avoid interceptions even while opening up the offense in measured increments: Neither Olson nor Matt Moore had a pass intercepted. The offense did open up, and the pair combined for 201 passing yards, the most since Cory Paus was injured Oct. 19.

3. Because Wildcats have trouble running, zero in on Arizona quarterbacks: UCLA had six sacks and put constant pressure on Jason Johnson and Nic Costa. Dave Ball and Steve Morgan combined on a sack, Marcus Reese was credited with two, and Mat Ball, C.J. Niusulu and Rusty Williams each had one.
